An experience and collaboration in the Taupo Region between Escape Aviation and Kai Waho, an outdoor Maori traditional food experience!

Fly from Taupo to Kai Waho. View the central North Island from the air, your scenic heli-flight will take in the tribal lands of Ngati Tuwharetoa, the tribe that encompasses the Central North Island. This flight will help you understand what the 26 Sub-tribes of Ngati Tuwharetoa are doing with their land and resources as well as key landmarks, before arriving at Kai Waho’s ‘Heli Kai’ location.

Cooking on hot stones

Your flight will land on the edge of the Kaimanawa ranges, at 1100mtrs on the doorstep of the Kai Waho Experience where your host will mihi (welcome you) and talk you through a “Luncheon with a difference”.

You will be expected to participate in the only cooking class of its kind, in New Zealand. Fast food A la Te Ao Maori. All food will be cooked over an open fire, either over the embers or dramatically seared on hot rocks, hot smoked, food parcelled in leaves then baked over the embers, skewered foods, mussels in their shells, all methods that we know and use today but are a key part of Te Ao Maori. The Maori World. Your medical dietaries are important, communicate these with the team, we will ensure you are fit and well for the return scenic flight back to your destination.
