Hidden deep in the Kaimanawa Ranges on the banks of the Waipakihi River, this secluded glamping retreat is something pretty special. With no road access and no neighbouring properties, the only way in and out is by helicopter.
Surrounded by mountains, native bush and the river, it’s a place to slow down and enjoy being properly off the grid. Swim in the river, relax around the fire, explore the newly built walking trail close to the retreat, or add a little more adventure and take on the Kaimanawa Descent by mountain bike ride.

Pricing above is per person and based on a two-night stay.
Helicopter transfers are included, with arrival at approximately 1:00pm on the day of check-in and departure at approximately 11:00am on the final day. All helicopter flights depart from and return to Kaimanawa Alpine Adventures, Waipakihi Road.
Pricing is valid until 30 June 2027.
About Your Stay
Our spacious Sunshine Safaris tent sleeps up to four guests across two private bedrooms, each with a comfortable queen bed.
Inside, you will find a fully equipped kitchen, indoor fireplace and everything you need for a comfortable off-grid stay. A separate toilet and shower block is located just outside the main tent, complete with a hot shower and composting toilet.
Outside is where you will probably spend most of your time. The large deck overlooks the Waipakihi River, while the outdoor fire pit is perfect for settling in with a drink as the sun goes down. There’s also an outdoor bathtub – ideal for a long soak after a day walking, biking or exploring.
Whether you are looking for a quiet few days away or want to combine your stay with one of our wilderness experiences, this is a chance to experience the Kaimanawa’s in a way very few people can.

As this is a remote, off-grid stay, we recommend coming prepared with:
- A chilly bin for additional food and drinks, as fridge space is limited
- Suitable footwear and clothing for changing weather conditions
- Personal toiletries
- All food and beverages for your stay
- Any specialty cooking ingredients you may require
- A portable power bank if you would like additional charging capacity
Good to know: There is no cell phone reception or Wi-Fi at the retreat, so we recommend downloading music, books, maps or anything else you may want before your helicopter departs.
